This selection will be your header. You can Chose an image or make a background.
Ill insert this image.

If you don't know how to insert an image into the selection. Read the following:
1 - Open the image in Photoshop then then CTRL+A to select all of it.
2 - CTRL + C to copy the selection and CTRL + V to past it in your Portfolio. It will automaticaly create a new layer of it.
3 - CTRL + LEFT CLICK in the Header, so it gets selected, Now in your image layer select the part of the image you want and hit CTRL+SHIFT+I to invert the selection and then press Del.
4 - Now that you have your image you can delete the header layer.
If you want to make your own background.
1 - You can make it in another PSD file and do the same.
or
2 - You can CTRL + LEFT CLICK the header layer.
3 - And you add brushing, and filters inside the selection.
I will do the first one.
You should have this by now.

You can now. Add your Header styles, and turn it more personal.
We Will now create the navigation. I could do just a space and in the coding process it would had the navigation but i wont.
We will now create a new layer. click your first layer, the yellow background. and then Create the layer so it stays above the background and behind the Content box. You can name it Nav if you want.

Now create the buttons.
I will only create one, then duplicate it.
Select your rectangular marquee tool and make a small rectangle in the right side of the content.

Lets get our buttons smoother now. Still with the selection loaded go to Select -> Modify -> Smooth - sample radius to 10 - that will do fine.
Now fill it with the content border color. That would be #FF0000 and add the layer these blending options.

After that set your layer to overlay.
Then Duplicate it the times you want - CTRL + J - to make your navigation...
Add some text to it, etc, etc...
We will now need to create the box where the content will be.
So select your rectangular marquee tool, don't forget to create a new layer above all the others, Make a selection inside the content and fill it with white. then Set the layer to Soft Light with 75% of opacity.
And thats it your done with your portfolio! You can now add som pattern to the background, then you'll have to slice it and code it

Here is what i came up with.
